FAQs

Q: How is your approach different from regular "talk therapy"?

A: Traditional talk therapy often involves unstructured venting, which can feel validating but sometimes leaves you feeling stuck in the same patterns. My approach is highly active and data-driven. Using TEAM-CBT and ACT, we set clear agendas, track your symptoms every session to ensure you are actually improving, and focus on building practical skills you can use between sessions. The goal is for you to eventually become your own therapist.

Q: Do you offer in-person appointments in Bishop or Mammoth Lakes?

A: I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth therapy located anywhere in California. If you are located in Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, or the Eastern Sierra, we can discuss options for localized care, but the majority of my practice is conducted via convenient, high-quality video sessions.

Q: What happens during the free 15-minute consultation?

A: The consultation is a low-pressure phone call to see if we are a good clinical fit. I will ask for a brief overview of what you are struggling with, explain how my specific frameworks (like ACT or TEAM-CBT) might help, and answer any logistical questions you have about scheduling or fees. If we aren't the right fit, I will do my best to point you toward a provider who is.

Q: Do you accept insurance

A: I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. However, we have partnered with Mentaya to completely streamline your out-of-network reimbursements. Mentaya is perfect if you want to use your out-of-network benefits but want to skip the headache of submitting superbills and fighting with insurance companies.

Here is how Mentaya works:

  1. Sign Up: Create an account using our custom invite link.

  2. We Handle the Data: Our practice automatically enters your completed sessions into the platform.

  3. They Handle the Hassle: Mentaya submits the claim, deals with any denials, and calls the insurance company on your behalf.

  4. You Get Paid: You receive your reimbursement directly.

Note: Mentaya charges a small 5% fee per claim to handle all the paperwork and guarantees your claims are successfully submitted, or they will refund their fee.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: I require a 48-hour notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Because your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you, late cancellations or missed sessions will be charged the full session fee. This policy ensures I can offer open times to other clients who may need support.

Q: What issues do you treat, and what is your therapeutic approach?

A: I help clients navigate anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, insomnia, health challenges, and major life transitions. At Action Potential, we move beyond traditional "talk therapy." I utilize active, evidence-based practices designed to help you feel better, faster. My specialized modalities include TEAM-CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Compassionate/Non-Violent Communication.

Q: How long does therapy usually take?

A: Because we use evidence-based, structured treatments like TEAM-CBT, many clients experience significant relief faster than in traditional therapy. Some find the tools they need in 8 to 12 sessions, while others prefer longer-term support to navigate complex life transitions or ongoing adult ADHD management. We evaluate your progress together every single session, so you are never in therapy longer than you need to be.
