Meet Dr. Jacob Eide

Licensed Psychologist (PSY27059) | Co-Founder of Action Potential Psychological Services, Inc.

I believe we all have an incredible potential for growth. But I also know—from both professional experience and my own life—that the journey from potential to progress requires more than just hope; it requires intentional, courageous action.

The Person Behind the Practice

Before we dive into my clinical background, I want to share who I am. I am a compassionate individual who strives to be my best in every moment. Sometimes I’m successful; many times, I’m not. I value honesty and integrity above all else.

While I can be reserved and introverted in my personal life—often preferring to observe from the sidelines—I find a different kind of confidence in my professional work. In the therapy room and in business, I am an extrovert at heart, ready to take risks and push for the breakthroughs you deserve.

After a challenging few years, I am personally working toward more intentionality, light-heartedness, and vulnerability—the same "embodied healing" I hope to facilitate for you.

A Life in Motion: From the Peace Corps to the Eastern Sierra

My perspective has been shaped by a journey that has taken me across the country and the globe:

  • Global Service: My wife and I served as Peace Corps volunteers in rural Costa Rica for two years, working as Community Development Volunteers.

  • Family & Resilience: After living in Seattle and adopting three children from foster care, we moved to Bishop in 2015 to be closer to family. My children are now 22, 18, and 16.

  • The Homestead: For the last decade, I’ve lived on a small homestead in Bishop with chickens, a tortoise, cats, and a year-round garden.

When I’m not in the office, you’ll likely find me exploring the Eastern Sierras. I’m an early riser—often out for a run or a yoga session before the sun comes up. I’m a hiker, mountain biker, and skier, and I’ve recently taken up high-altitude sailing. I also find deep joy in making music (I play several instruments and am always learning more) and playing board games with friends.

Professional Expertise & Specialized Training

A Legacy of Clinical Excellence

With a career spanning over two decades, I bring a rare breadth of experience to my practice. I earned a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Indianapolis in 2004 with a specialization working with children and adolescents. My clinical journey consists of providing vital services across a diverse array of settings, including:

  • Specialized Pediatric Care: Training at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the Dallas Independent School District.

  • Integrated Health: Developing and managing premier behavioral health programs at International Community Health Services (ICHS) and Mammoth Hospital.

  • Community Leadership: Owning and operating Owens Valley Wellness and serving for two years in the Peace Corps, where I focused on community consultation and group facilitation.

The "Action Potential" Approach:

I do not believe in "one-size-fits-all" talk therapy. Instead, I utilize a structured, results-oriented framework designed to help you reach your goals faster.

I am a Level 3 Certified TEAM-CBT Therapist through the Feeling Good Institute, a designation held by a select group of clinicians who have demonstrated mastery in the most advanced cognitive-behavioral techniques. Through his partnership with the Feeling Good Institute, I provide cutting-edge treatment for those ready to overcome unhelpful thoughts and barriers to progress.

In addition to my CBT expertise, I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am currently training to become a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, and have completed an intensive training on Non-Violent Communication allowing me to blend scientific precision with presence-based wellness.

Consultant, Trainer, and Innovator

Beyond the therapy room, I am a recognized leader in Integrated Primary Care Behavioral Health. I spent my career training the next generation of psychologists, medical providers, and dental staff, helping them bridge the gap between physical and mental health care.

Community & Global Impact

I believe in service beyond the therapy room. As a member of Rotary International, I served as president of the Rotary Club of Bishop Sunrise and volunteer in local service projects including Scouts, grant writing, and community beautification. I am currently working to secure funding for a Peace Project in Colombia, continuing the work of community development that began during my time in the Peace Corps.

Ready to Activate Your Change?

Whether you are navigating a major life transition, dealing with trauma, or simply feeling "stuck,"

I am here to partner with you. Let's move past potential and start the work of progress.

Core Values of Action Potential

Our values are the compass that keeps our ‘Action Potential’ moving in the right direction. Without them, we are simply active; with them, we are purposeful.
— Jacob Eide

To me, integrity means that my professional guidance is backed by personal practice. I don't just teach these tools; I live them. Whether I am consulting for a global peace project or working with a client in Bishop, I strive for a consistency where my actions always reflect my stated beliefs.

1. Integrity: Alignment in Action

The path to healing requires looking at the truth—even when it's uncomfortable. I value a therapeutic relationship where we can be honest about what is working and what isn't. I bring that same honesty to my own growth, acknowledging that the pursuit of excellence is a journey of both successes and setbacks.

2. Honesty: Radical Transparency

When navigating life’s "stuck" moments, intentionality is the cure. It is the choice to be playful, vulnerable, and present. My goal is to help you move from reacting to life’s challenges to intentionally creating the life you want, one value-driven choice at a time.

3. Intentionality: Purpose Over Inertia
